This used to not be true, but today it is. And it's not even that Republicans/Conservatives are more tolerant than they used to be. Republicans/conservatives have DEEP divisions, and strong differences of opinion. But the Left's crazy meter has gotten so far out of whack that "circular firing squad" has become feral cannibalism. Republicans are just sitting on the sidelines, watching the show, politely welcoming anyone else to also watch the show.
