The problem is not just mega-corporations being greedy, it is the utterly enormous volumes of regulatory red tape that make small business untenable for many industries.

I used to be a small business owner. I now work for a large corporation. I would really like to go back...but I cannot afford to complete all of the paperwork that is required.

Take single doctor's offices. A single doctor can't be in business, because there is no way a one-doctor one-assistant office can keep up with all of the paperwork. So, doctors have to get bought by a large corporation.

Banking is the same way. Why are so many smaller banks getting gobbled up by JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup? Because small banks cannot afford all of the compliance measures that are required by the government.

Increasing regulatory complexity will only increase mega-corporate consolidation.
