Look, I agree that a return to community is in some ways the best hope we have. And that bland corporate ownership ruins that.
But what do you do, pass a law that says corporations cannot own any residential real estate? pass a law that says I cannot buy a second house for my aging grandmother? pass a law saying each family can own exactly no more than ONE house, and if two people get married who each already own houses, they must sell and close one of them off within 90 days?
And then there is the fact that many younger types don't WANT to own. Many don't want to be tied down to one location for the rest of their lives. If I travel to another country for six months, I want a nice cheap place I can rent. Without investment home ownership, how would this be possible? I don't want to stay in a corporate stuffy Hilton. What do you do with those types that prefer to live in a new city every couple of years? Force them by law to pick one city by age 25, build a house, and live there forever?
I just don't see how all this is logistically possible.
