It's a complicated question, because yes there is a deep racist vein throughout America, and I have my own stories of survival as you have shared yours, and many others do as well.

Although to be fair, racism exists throughout the entire world. Japan vs China? Racism does not start nor end with Anglo-Saxon supremacy.

What I am talking about is a more race-agnostic reason. From Stalin's USSR to today's Venezuela, many dictatorships were enabled to take hold, after guns/property/businesses were stripped from the people, by the state.

Not saying I completely agree with this, but confiscation & registration of firearms is seen in the US as a red herring toward totalitarian governmental control.
