I read your article with interest, as I am sincerely neutral about Trump.
I am just as #nevertrump as I was back in 2016. But he did a lot more good than many give him credit.
I find your article negatively biased. You keep coming back to him as a person. His ego, grab them by the pu**y, bankruptcies, criminal record, white supremacists, moral makeup, serious concerns about his overall character...even in the very section you dedicated to "some good" he did!
I don't think this is fair. I mean, I refused to vote for him for exactly this reason. But if you want to talk about his character flaws, compartmentalize the topic just as much as you talk about his merits.
You also sandwich his merits, in between talks of his negatives. Again, I don't think this is fair.
It really doesn't matter how much of an asshole or racist he is, when it comes to evaluating his policies.
And I feel the first three words in your positives section, should read in all caps: "NO NEW WARS." Wasn't that the entire criticism of the LAST Republican President? Why peace-loving hippie liberals are not LOVING Trump for this reason, really makes no sense.
Also, he was a strong steward of the economy. The stock market did well. Job workers did well. Everybody did well. Except for this Covid thing, and even that turned into the shortest recession in our nation's history.
Finally, he was better at managing world affairs than you might think. Our #1 ally in the Middle East is not Israel, but Saudi Arabia. He did a lot to build up relations there. The fact that Russia, Brasil, and China at least respected him, did a lot to slow momentum of the BRICS takeover of the world economy (which has swiftly resumed under Biden). And he wisely kept Iran isolated and harmless. I was no fan of his sucking up to Kim Jong Un (really?), but at least they stopped escalating nuclear war vs South Korea. Russia never would have invaded Ukraine, and Hamas never would have pulled off an October 7th, under a Trump Presidency.
I disagree with you about Afghanistan - although I am no expert. Biden was wanting to withdraw from there during Obama's terms. The actual withdrawal was both reckless and left an entire stockpile of tanks and munitions for the Taliban as a gift. Trump had nothing to do with that.
If you want to talk Roe, or judges, I would blame or credit Mitch McConnell a lot more than Trump.
The one area you highlight, where I really agree with you, is his attempted subversion of the integrity of the United States. He did seek to overturn the election - through Georgia, Pence, and Arizona. Even his own faithfully loyal lieutenants, Pence Kemp, Barr... all spoke out against him. Even now he still claims election fraud, while in 2020 his team was given every opportunity to demonstrate even a shred of evidence - they had none after two Arizona, ballot-by-ballot recounts. He tried to manipulate Comey at the FBI, The USPS, CIA, NATO (although I agreed with him on funding, like you...he still weakened NATO), and yes he absolutely would have made his single-point-of-focus mission to get a 3rd term, had he won in 2020. I don't think this country would have survived a 2nd Trump Presidency.
