I am NOT saying that you should concern yourself with extreme people. I did NOT say that.
But Jo Cherry archetype is not representative of most of the world. There are well meaning people, in government, in the public, and in business, who simply don’t understand the issues at hand. And because there is a lack of understanding, people like Cherry get a lot of press and influence.
I also think that goalposts are not established for the conversation. For example, there is not majority consensus among my work colleagues, that sex and gender are two different things.
You do bring up valid concerns, like the “biological” sex along with its consequences. I wish that was what was in the media more often. But your truth is not understood by most.
I consider myself pro trans, so please receive my posts this way. And I do try to help. I have a trans friend who is really having a rough time, nobody will hire her, because they consider her a lawsuit risk. I think she’s very close to the edge, and I am stressing about how to help her other than sending money. And if you have any advice for me on how to be helpful I am very interested.
I just think the PR battle to win over the reasonable and well-meaning is being won by people like Joanna Cherry and Matt Walsh. Most people, who would not be Cherry-followers, are only hearing about Lia Thomas and “What is a Woman” and activists screaming down Yale professors. Reasonable points of view like what you are expressing your wish for, are lost in the noise. And I wish that wasn’t the case.
