You're absolutely right, those white guys were assholes. The fact that this happens today, is fucked up.

In positive news, the examples I gave were sporadic. We went out together regularly, to cultural events, dinner, subway, etc., and most of the time people treated us like any other couple. And I'm not sure this would have been as pleasant a joy of living in a free society, even 20-30 years ago.
